The Academic Success Team can support you with statistics at all levels—from hand calculations and foundational concepts through to more advanced methods and the use of statistical software. This includes help with:
- Understanding variables, samples, and data types
- Descriptive statistics and visualisation
- Probability and distributions
- Hypothesis testing
- Correlation and regression
- ANOVA and non-parametric tests
- Interpreting statistical output and presenting results
- Choosing appropriate methods for your research
- Using software such as SPSS, R, Excel, or online tools
Tutors can guide you through your own work and help you build confidence in statistical thinking and techniques, but they cannot carry out analyses or complete assessments for you.
Support is available through regular drop-in sessions in both libraries (no booking required) and through bookable appointments, which can take place in person or online via Teams. All students are welcome, and sessions are free.
In addition to these, the tutors run a regular schedule of classes which you can attend:
You can also access extra support through the Academic Success Team’s Maths and Statistics Canvas course, which includes videos, step-by-step guides, and self-study resources. You can self-enrol at any time.
If you're unsure where to start—whether with manual calculations, core concepts, or software—come to a drop-in, make a booking, or explore the Canvas resources; tutors are happy to help.
