The Library subscribes to an excellent range of databases providing access to market research. Market research databases are distinct from other databases in the way they generate their content themselves through carrying out research on consumers and markets, and use it to produce reports and to provide expert commentary and analysis on current trends. Most databases collect information from other sources and present it on their platform.
1. Finding key market research resources using Database Search
You can go directly to a specific database via our new Database Search. Below we have picked out some of the key databases for finding market research, together with some brief details about what they cover. You can click on the titles for access; you will need to log in via LJMU using your LJMU username (username@ljmu.ac.uk) and password.
Business Source Ultimate
Business Source Complete is primarily used for academic research, but it also has industry profiles. To find them you can either: Use the basic keyword search to find industry reports on a topic, or, Enter the industry code under NAICS/Industry Code. To limit your search to industry profiles: Scroll down to Search Options, Find Publication Type, Select Industry Profile.
Passport
This online market research tool monitors industry trends and provides strategic analysis, market size and market share data across key countries and industries. It also includes demographic and economic data and packaging information. Charts and analysis for products and services in major economies around the world are available; use the 'Country Reports: Datagraphics' tool available from the homepage to find see charts and graphs for your chosen industry. Alternatively, you can quickly access statistics using the 'Search Statistics' tool, or browse the different reports available on an industry from the Industries tab.
IBISWorld
With over 400 industries covered and similar coverage of global economies, IBISWorld has a broad collection of UK, US, China and Global-level industry research. Please note that there is a download limit of 25 reports per session. IBISWorld provides industry research on all industries identified by Standard Industrial Classification of economic activities (SIC) and North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) for the UK, US, China and globally. Search for your industry or use the classification identifiers to browse.
MarketLine
This resource provides international market research, offering a comprehensive mix of company, industry, country and financial data for every major marketplace in the world.
Mintel
Mintel provides UK market research reports with a rolling two years of data. The focus is on consumer markets including specialist coverage of the financial sector.
Statista
Statista provides access to recent and relevant statistics and studies on a specific topic. It combines statistical data on international industries from different sources including market researchers, trade organisations, scientific journals, and government databases. Various reports are available including Consumer Reports. These give an overview of what consumers are thinking, featuring survey data on usage, behavior and attitudes, opinions and preferences, enabling you to get to know the customers in different countries and industries.
WGSN
WGSN is the leading resource for consumer and design trends. It provides global trend insights, expertly curated data, and industry expertise to help innovators create the right products.
2. Finding key market research resources using Discover
Another way to find market research is by searching Library Discover and filtering your results by Material Type - Market Research on the right-hand side of the screen.
Not not all market research is discoverable in Discover, but you may find material that puts the research into context. If you don't find what you need, remember to search the individual databases as well.
