Finding newspapers using Databases search

Many newspaper databases are available from the Databases link on the Library Resources page. In the Databases search, try terms such as: ‘newspapers’, ‘news’ and ‘press’.

UK newspapers include: The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The Observer, The Independent, i, The Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, as well as regional papers such as the London Evening Standard. The PressReader Catalog can be accessed on a PC or through the PressReader app. For help see the PressReader app guide. Let PressReader do the reading for you by enabling the Text-to-Speech feature.
  • Lexis+ Library: Select ‘News’ and search the entire collection of UK newspapers, or select a particular newspaper to search. Many have coverage right up to the current issue. For help, see the Lexis+ user guide.
  • Factiva: A global news information service providing online access to over 1,700 newspapers from around the world.

  • Gale NewsVault: Search various collections all in one place. Includes British Library Newspapers 1732-1950 (national and regional newspapers, fully text searchable) and the Daily Mail, Economist and Financial Times’ Historical Archives. Finding newspapers by using Journals search

Alternatively, search Library Discover for a particular newspaper using Journals search. This can also be accessed from Library Resources (under the Library Resources tile) or from the link within Library Discover. The ‘View Online’ part of a record shows in which databases the newspaper is available. For example, searching for 'The Guardian' reveals it is available via Factiva and Proquest.

Collaborative partner access to library resources varies from partner to partner and resource to resource. Collaborative Staff and Students (Collaborative Partners) may not have access to all library resources.
